About

|THE SWITCH presents its Cabinet de L’Art, opening with a one piece/one man show.

The Switch’s annual program opens on March 3rd with the first edition of Cabinet de L’Art venture. Operating as a private showroom, the intimate and personal proposal will feature the French Artist and Alchemist Skoya Assémat-Tessandier’s work, who has selected the powerful painting “Soleil” (Sun), part of the series “Corps Celeste” (Celestial Bodies), created in 2009 but never exhibited before.

The large-scale painting was conceived through Skoya’s experiments on a technique discovered during his two years’ residency in Tokyo. The tools were developed from oriental elements and were added to the cultural knowledge absorbed by the Artist during his immersion in Japan: esoteric beliefs surround Skoya’s themes. The work combines the power of live painting performances in close dialogue with the transcendental. Numerological and astrological systems blended with interest in the unconventional are translated into abstraction: “As if we were looking at each planet in the solar system with a microscope” says Skoya. As part of the language developed in his career, “Soleil” presents a deep mastery of color, sensory work with textures and the peculiar alchemy that leads to a journey in the expression of the French Alchemist.

In his first individual appearance in Lisbon, Skoya shares the experience of previous shows in New York, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Paris. In the last ten years, he has sought experience in the major international art centers.

With Skoya’s work, The Switch brings to Lisbon the French concept of Cabinet de L’Art, whose date back to the 15th century. Short-term exhibitions, reserved space with personalised attention, presenting the work of guest Artists, performances and events.

The first show will open on Friday 3rd of March 2017, from 7pm to 10pm, and will be on display from March 4th to March 12th, by appointment only.

The young gallery The Switch, located at Rua Heróis de Quionga 54D, is managed by an Artist and was born with the vocation to give new strengths to the art world and its market, presenting emerging talents in frequent exhibitions.
